I recently met with DJ client who asked me a couple question about financial maters. I had attempted to work with his financial plan two years ago, and he kept putting me off. Now he's realizing that he wants to create something to help his child who could attend college in two years. So now he's ready to open a 529 account and asked me to just prepare the papers and he's ready to sign. I noted that I'm currently not involved in the financial services field while I'm completing my Masters, and then referred him to a few of the professionals I work with for my investments (Ron McLean, Joey Colisito, and John Epting). After that disclosure I asked "How much do you have in your retirement accounts ?" He noted that he's not worried about him, he wants his child to go to school. My response: "Hook yourself up first. It's easier to find college money than it is to find retirement money. Who's gonna loan you money to retire on ?"
My point: Invest in your future first. If you don't have anything growing to live on when you cannot work anymore, you will be dependent upon others. If you want your children to have a good future, invest in yourself so you will not be a burden upon them later. If you are not investing a mimimum of 10% of your income into your future, meet with a financial adviser soon.

Wave your hands in the air ! (Accommodations)
True story....
My background in Special Education has provided me with a
working concept with the term accommodations. Students who receive Special
Education services very often have instructional accommodations (changes in the
way a teacher provides instruction) to make sure that each student has access
to a similar level of instruction. Some students have accommodations of sitting
in the front of the room, or additional time to submit work, or they wear glasses
or a hearing aid. The teacher doesn't change the instruction, the students just
gets something to give them equal access to the experience.
Very often when I do presentations, I guide the audience into understanding that they are responsible for identifying areas in their life where they have deficiencies, and find accommodations to assist them. Using auto-pay on my retirement investments is an example of an accommodation as I often forget to invest if I didn't use auto-pay. I also use two alarm clocks set at different times to make sure I awaken at time. Often in life we are presented with good information, yet we ignore the information because it may not seem to apply to us. If you want the results that the information provides, but don’t think that the information can apply to you, then this would be a good time to apply an accommodation.
A while ago I was leading a group of teens in a leadership training activity
into considering the concepts of accommodations and the importance of one to
identify one's deficiencies and find accommodations. I asked if any of them had
problems with their 9 times tables and a few students shook their head affirming
YES. I then showed a Youtube video that demonstrated how one can use their 10
fingers to do the 9 times tables easily. (Here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oamy8L2lDZM).
As I began doing the strategy in front of the group I then noticed that
one of the teens only had one hand. To make things further
embarsing, this was one of the teens who stated that they had a problem with
the 9 times table. I quickly stated "If you want to be slick, you
can do this with your feet so that no-one can see that you needed the accommodations."
The student smiled, and shook their head in agreement. Later on my
co-facilitator stated "I was embarrassed for you. I just wanted to begin
laughing when I realized the student only had one hand. You handled that well.
I just had a thought. If that teen could draw a hand on a sheet of paper, they
could use that strategy. If they are creative, that strategy can still work for
them.
Identify your problems, and search for accommodations. You can accomplish
the same with less. You have the whole world in your HAND. Give yourself a HAND
!
Be prosperous !

Christmas and the Anti-Christ
To celebrate Christmas, many believers did something the Bible teaches it's readers not to do...... Go into debt. Putting Christmas onto your credit card might be the Anti-Christ.
I decided to wait to make this post until after the Holy-Day& Holiday season.Just a few weeks ago many placed themselves into debt to celebrate Christmas and gift giving. Credit cards and the ease of borrowing has made it easy for 'Christians' to use credit in a manner which is fundamentally obverse to the teachings of the Bible..... I've decided to call 'debt' the 'Anti-Christ'. Plainly put, the Bible and other Holy books of guidance direct their followers to avoid debt. Putting Christmas onto your credit card could be construed as doing the exact opposite of the holy teachings. Putting Christmas onto your credit card might be the Anti-Christ.
Let that marinate for about 11 months........I'll join you in that consideration. Why not take a look at the below Michelle Singletary video or visit Dave Ramsey's site while marinating.
Last year my business partner Brian Cooper and I began a series of presentations called The Plan which was based upon our lessons from being agents of World Financial Group, our studies of Michelle Singletary and Dave Ramsey's plans, and other personal financial plans. In late February we will be releasing a FREE video of the entire presentation. Until then, enjoy below a slide from the presentation.

When I get asked
how my wife and I met, I always warn the person or people who ask
that it's boring. It really is. It wasn't love at first sight which I
don't believe in at all. It wasn't a “moment” where the entire
room stopped as if we were in some kind of emotionally controlled
time shift. There is nothing spectacular about it. I am also finding
out that many of us embellish the “how we met” story to make it
sound more dramatic. We make it fairy tale land. Then when the
relationship doesn't work out, we don't even bring up that story
anymore.
One story I love
telling and I thought I blogged about but never did, is when I
realized my wife was definitely a keeper. I want to warn folks by
telling them that its not going to be the same for everyone else. So
don't try to make the same thing happen. There is just simply
different strokes for different folks. We all have our own tastes,
preferences, bias, etc. So my story will not be yours and vice versa.
Just keep that in
mind as you read along.
It was probably
our 10th date. I think we had several dates and several
times where we just hung out at my place or hers. I never counted
hanging out at someone's house as a “date.” So my math could be
wrong. My son was going to be in this wedding as a Bible bearer. Yes,
they have those, too. I thought it would be a great time to introduce
X to her. At that time, we weren't actually official either. I really
dug her and loved her company. We spent hours talking. The sex was
great as well. In the back of my mind, I did want to commit. At that
time, she wanted us to ease into it. So I obliged her.
To be honest, I
thought she would be weirded out if I asked out to a wedding.
Especially one where my ex would be there. If there is a saboteur out
there, it would be her. Back then I always threw an olive branch to
her and she always burned it. Heck, she still does it's just that I
stopped extending them joints to her. She thought it was a great
idea. That's one thing I always loved about my wife, she was down for
anything.
The wedding
location was about a half a mile from my place and it began at
1:30pm. She asked if she could come by my place at around 11:30. I
thought it would be great. She showed up right on time but I noticed
she wasn't dressed for a wedding. I know what you are thinking. She
wasn't dressed for a club either. She was more dressed to help me put
up a shelf. She looked great but not wedding great. A red flag went
up.
We talked as I
ironed. It was a wonderful conversation. In the back of my mind, I
thought to myself “I hope this heffer ain't thinking about going to
the store to buy some clothes before the wedding. We definitely don't
have time for that.” Yet she never mentioned anything and we kept
talking. At around 12:45pm, I asked, “are you ready?”
I expected her to
say “can we go to a department store so I can pick up some stuff?”
If she did, I had a speech prepared.
“Can I borrow
your iron?” She asked.
After I agreed,
she pulled out some fabric from her bag. She cut the fabric into two
pieces and ironed it. Then she pulled out a beautiful top and ironed
that as well. When she was done, she made a skirt with a matching
head wrap. I was enthralled. I never saw anything like that in my
entire life. The entire transformation took about 15 minutes. I was
breathless.
I thought to
myself, “if you let her go you are an idiot...”
I remember heading
to the church. Everyone stopped with their jaws opened. Some people
even asked “are you a princess of some sort?” I wanted to say
“yes!”
And that was the
beginning...

Guest Post - Reflecting On Commitment by AngelinaD
Reflecting On ~ Commitment
By angelinad
I’m beginning to find it interesting that people have asked me
to blog about specific topics; that my reflection and introspection is
both relevant and personal to those who can receive it. I’ve shared this
with you to say that I am thankful for this gift as it has been given
to me; and every word I print or speak carries with it the Spirit of the
Gift…and so for my Sunshine who requested it, I reflect on ~ Commitment…com·mit·ment n. The state of being bound emotionally or intellectually to a course of action or to another person or persons.
I am committed to my faith. I am committed to the upbringing of my children. I am committed to supporting my mother. I am committed to using my gifts. I am committed to the man I love. Commitment is relational; so by my own declaration, if I am committed to my faith, then my commitment to all the other things goes without saying.
Faith is the complete trust or confidence in someone or something, and it is not based in proof. It is, quite simply, belief. Faith is the gut feeling. Faith is the knowing. Faith is the – say what you want, but I believe that _______. It does not require justification or explanation, and people can have faith in whatever or whomever they so choose. Do you agree?
Stay with me now…
Commitment is the state of being bound emotionally or intellectually – emotion and thought. It is the response to the things you can see and touch and contemplate. Commitment is the responsibility to do and act based on – faith.
When you are committed to faith, you will act in a manner that is a constant demonstration of that commitment, that responsibility. You see, you are the representative of that which you declare and any shared commitment rests in shared faith and shared understanding of what that means to any persons involved.
Take a moment to consider your observations of the actions of others. Do their actions represent the faith commitment they declare? Why or why not? If your response is based solely on outcomes that affect you, you may have misinterpreted to what they were committed.
Also, consider your own actions in situations. Do your actions represent the faith commitment you declare? Why or why not? If you are acting in a way that solely suits you, then perhaps you may need to reevaluate your commitments as well.

“The time is always right to do what is right.”
~ Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
It is my belief that commitment is responsibility. It can do good or harm, depending upon who declares it. It is the act of being responsible to and for situations, atmospheres, and at times, people.
Be committed to right; and anything or anyone who does not share your level commitment will show themselves – wrong.

Guest Post - Feelin’ Some Kinda Way About Boredom
Feelin’ Some Kinda Way ~ About Boredom
By angelinad
We get busy. We often find ourselves at certain points in our lives trying to figure out when we can claim some down time. We are frustrated with our day-to-day because there never seems to be an empty moment.
We are trying to determine a way to add another few minutes or hours to the day because it seems as though there is so much to be done; and we are either running out of energy or we realize that we are only one person and simply cannot do it all.

Be thankful. You have things to do and the ability to do them. Somewhere, more than one someone is not feeling well today. Their health is failing them. They were not well yesterday; and perhaps, they will not be well tomorrow. So, while you run around in the hustle and bustle of your day-to-day, that person may not wish for all the things that you have to do. It’s not their desire because, simply put – they’re not you. They don’t want to do what you do. However, they would just like the opportunity to do one of the things you needed to get done today. They crave a place they need to be, a new opportunity…something to do.
I’m feelin’ some kinda way about boredom because I realize that sometimes I get bored with my day-to-day; and yet, my day-to-day is not bedridden, institutionalized. Ultimately, I have limitless options to find a way to do something different. Everybody doesn’t have the choice I have. So, the next time you get bored, think of someone who doesn’t have the ability to choose today, and do something different –
with them.

Guest post - Feelin’ Some Kinda Way About Fear
Feelin’ Some Kinda Way ~ About Fear, Insecurity & The Bubbleguts
By angelinad
One morning I awoke to fear. I didn’t immediately know what I
was afraid of; I just opened my eyes to this quiet sense that I was
troubled, worried, something’s just not right in my world this morning –
at 4am. I promised God and myself some time ago that I wasn’t going to
complain when I had these 4am wakeups. Whatever the feeling I have when
waking during this time, I’m convinced that God has something to say.
The question is whether I plan to talk, listen, or write.I talked, listened, and wrote.

This is a guest post by AngelinaD. The original post can be found here:
http://angelinad.wordpress.com/2012/05/09/feelin-some-kinda-way-about-fear-insecurity-the-bubbleguts/
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Fears often come to us in the form of people, places, things, events, tasks, etc. It’s the fear of ________. You can easily define what fits in the blank. But, I have come to understand that when I cannot define fear, it’s because I’m not really afraid. I no longer carry the spirit of fear. I, like you, must face things of this world, but I am not afraid anymore because I KNOW that God has my back. Whatever the outcome of whatever I undertake or whatever is thrown at me, I am going to be ok. I’m not troubled by fear. We don’t need to be afraid.
But, it’s 4am. My day is not ready to start, and I thought I awoke to fear. So, I began to ask, “What is it that I’m feeling…Help me see what’s troubling me…” and in an instant, the bubbleguts tell me immediately that I’m dealing with – insecurity.
in·se·cu·ri·ty – a feeling of apprehensiveness and uncertainty; a lack of assurance.
I had replaced fear with a lack of faith – in faith. And now, I’m waking to doubt. We only need a mustard seed of faith to be assured of salvation; and yet, I awoke with my stomach in knots because I wanted, needed assurance that I was hearing from Him. I already had assurance. I was certain of that. But, I needed confirmation.
What an uncomfortable feeling! To awake to physical discomfort rooted in seeds that I allowed to be planted. Headed to the facilities, I became more overwhelmed with self-doubt. I wondered on some current events and situations and looked for a cause rooted in me. I began to replay my actions. Did I make a misstep? Did I do something I wasn’t supposed to do? But why would I doubt me when the things I do are not for me? In the facilities, I released – waste. Waste that formed in my bowels as the result of something I ingested {ate, heard, saw}. The stench of defecated process re~assured me.
My eyesight adjusted to the darkness of the room, and I could see all that was around me – now – everything is in its place. And, I heard – “It is for ME.”
And then, I flushed.
Assurance is Confirmation.
May you experience the bubbleguts.
The original post is here:
http://finance.yahoo.com/news/how-a-family-of-four-manages-to-live-well-on-just--14-000-per-year-174803218.html
In the years since the recession, the median
household income in the U.S. has dropped to just over $50,000, while
fixed costs like health care, higher education, and housing have only
soared. Now imagine trying to support a family of four on a fraction of
that income.
It's a reality that stay-at-home wife and mother of two Danielle Wagasky has lived for the last four years. And, perhaps a little surprisingly, she wouldn't have it any other way.
Wagasky, 28, lives with her her husband, Jason, 31, and their two young children in a three-bedroom family home in Las Vegas, Nevada. While Jason, a member of the U.S. Army, completes his undergraduate studies, the family's only source of income is the $14,000 annual cost of living allowance he receives under the G.I. Bill. Despite all odds, the family has barely any credit card debt, no car payment, and no mortgage to speak of.
Wagasky has been sharing her journey to living meaningfully and frugally on her blog, Blissful and Domestic, since 2009.
She was kind enough to chat with BI and tell us how she makes it work.
Wagasky finds inspiration everywhere from the library to tips from readers on her blog.
Amazon "My husband told me he'd heard about this book, [America's Cheapest Family Gets You Right on the Money
]," she said. "We talked about it over the phone and I read it and thought how it could apply to us."
The couple had a single savings goal in mind –– scraping together $30,000 for a down-payment on their home in their native Henderson, Nevada.
The mindless spending was out, and Wagasky came up with a budget she could make work. "I changed the way I was grocery shopping and started working my way up, " she said.
She stopped eating out and learned how to cook.
Wagasky barely knew her way around a kitchen when she started her money makeover.
Now she's an avid cookbook collector (she checks them out from libraries or asks for them as gifts to save), and it's one of the simplest ways she's managed to cutback on spending.
With a $7 bread-maker she scored at a local thrift shop, she never spends on store bought slices. She's not shy about professing her love for wholesale stores like Costco, which is her go-to source for baking ingredients.
Everything in the home is either hand-sewn and or made from scratch.
seth w./Flickr"Everything
must be budgeted," Wagasky wrote in a June entry on her blog. "From
family outings, to toiletries to clothes purchases. It must be
budgeted."
And she takes Do-It-Yourself to the extreme. Everything from laundry soap and clothing to the kitchen her husband installed in their new home was either crafted by hand or thrifted.
She swears by this home-made laundry detergent recipe.
The family swapped cable for Netflix and Hulu.
When it come to cutting costs, cable was as easy luxury to part ways with.
With two children aged 6 and 8 to entertain, Wagasky invests $14.99 in a Netflix plan and recently added Hulu to the mix.
The family also uses a simple antennae to pick up basic cable channels.
She goes to the grocery store once per month, pays cash, and never goes over budget.
REUTERS/Mario AnzuoniWith a single source of fixed income, there's no room for impulse purchases in the Wagasky household.
They budget $400 for groceries each month and that's it.
"Once that $400 is gone, it is gone," she writes. "There are no extra shopping trips made because there is no more money."
They are a cash-only household but keep a credit card for emergencies.
Wagasky said they have no credit debt, but they do charge emergency expenses on plastic when absolutely necessary.
"We recently had some medical bills we had to pay, and we were able to take our savings and pay those down as fast as we could," she said.
They fill up their tanks once per month and combine errands as much as possible.
REUTERS/Pichi ChuangWith gas prices creeping higher each all the time, the Wagaskys watch their mileage like hawks.
That means combining errands together and doing all they can to make one tank of gas last a month.
"We know we don't get to drive and visit family often, so when we do we cherish it," she wrote in a blog entry.
"We don't go just for an hour, we stay and visit and even run errands that may be close to where we have family. We try to remember that when the gas is gone...it is gone."
They paid for both of their cars in cash and have no car payments.
After Wagasky's husband left active duty and started school, the couple knew they would only have $14,000 per year to live on.
So they paid off the $8,000 he owed on his truck while he was earning more and they could afford the expense.
They also bought a van, which they saved $10,000 for initially and were able to pay the remaining $12,000 owed within a year.
Having zero car payments is a nice relief.
She skips all kiddie snacks in favor of healthier, cheaper DIY options.
anyone with simple math skills, Wagasky was quick to realize how much
cash she was wasting on prepackaged snacks for her children.
She cut them out completely and whips up homemade granola bars and trail mix instead.
If she can freeze food, she will.
If you're on a tight food budget, your freezer will become your best friend.
Wagasky chops vegetables and fruits and freezes them for a month. She actually does the same for dairy products like cheese, butter and yogurt.
"I am able to freeze about 8 gallons of milk each month," she writes. "They sit at the bottom of my freezer and we thaw them out when we need them." Baked goods get the same chilly treatment.
She uses a food co-op to save on fresh produce.
REUTERS/Mario AnzuoniWagasky
was dubious about joining a food co-op, but after three months, she
realized she would never beat the savings or quality she found.
Food co-ops pool membership fees together in order to fund a monthly harvest that's distributed at designated pick-up points.
A couple of times per month, Wagasky gets a basketful of in-season produce for $15 –– way better bargain than she'd ever find in stores.
They took advantage of Nevada's declining housing market to score a cheap foreclosure.
By the time Wagasky's husband came home from Iraq, they had managed to scrape together the $30,000 they needed for a downpayment on a home.
"But we decided the best option would be not to have a mortgage payment at all," she said. "We found a fixer-upper that didn't have a kitchen ... and we paid cash."
Price tag: $28,000. With the leftover cash, they were able to finish the kitchen and install wood flooring throughout the house.
It's a reality that stay-at-home wife and mother of two Danielle Wagasky has lived for the last four years. And, perhaps a little surprisingly, she wouldn't have it any other way.
Wagasky, 28, lives with her her husband, Jason, 31, and their two young children in a three-bedroom family home in Las Vegas, Nevada. While Jason, a member of the U.S. Army, completes his undergraduate studies, the family's only source of income is the $14,000 annual cost of living allowance he receives under the G.I. Bill. Despite all odds, the family has barely any credit card debt, no car payment, and no mortgage to speak of.
Wagasky has been sharing her journey to living meaningfully and frugally on her blog, Blissful and Domestic, since 2009.
She was kind enough to chat with BI and tell us how she makes it work.
Wagasky finds inspiration everywhere from the library to tips from readers on her blog.
The couple had a single savings goal in mind –– scraping together $30,000 for a down-payment on their home in their native Henderson, Nevada.
The mindless spending was out, and Wagasky came up with a budget she could make work. "I changed the way I was grocery shopping and started working my way up, " she said.
She stopped eating out and learned how to cook.
Wagasky barely knew her way around a kitchen when she started her money makeover.
Now she's an avid cookbook collector (she checks them out from libraries or asks for them as gifts to save), and it's one of the simplest ways she's managed to cutback on spending.
With a $7 bread-maker she scored at a local thrift shop, she never spends on store bought slices. She's not shy about professing her love for wholesale stores like Costco, which is her go-to source for baking ingredients.
Everything in the home is either hand-sewn and or made from scratch.
And she takes Do-It-Yourself to the extreme. Everything from laundry soap and clothing to the kitchen her husband installed in their new home was either crafted by hand or thrifted.
She swears by this home-made laundry detergent recipe.
The family swapped cable for Netflix and Hulu.
When it come to cutting costs, cable was as easy luxury to part ways with.
With two children aged 6 and 8 to entertain, Wagasky invests $14.99 in a Netflix plan and recently added Hulu to the mix.
The family also uses a simple antennae to pick up basic cable channels.
She goes to the grocery store once per month, pays cash, and never goes over budget.
'The Plan is coming'..... I hope you are coming too !
O.K. This is 'The Plan' week, which is title of Positive Vibes Financial first event. We will be hosting an event once a quarter with a Service-Services model. In short we will host an event which we will do as a service to the community in a way that also provides a glimpse on our company's services. An attendee wouldn't need to use our firm to benefit from the information we are going to share. In fact, the strategy is to provide the guests with tools they can use themselves to improve their lives without our assistance. This may sound a little backwards, but our business model is to help everybody in a group setting which leads to certain types of client who wants to improve their family's financial life in specific ways. This first installment is a practice run. I formally and digitally invite you and yours to attend and to provide honest feedback as we continue to develop this presentation and our firm. Here's the deal:
Time traveling....Love is the message...Go to class
Prosperity,
This video is an audio lecture done by Chris Parker aka KRS ONE. In other lectures and songs he challenges the listener to "Visualize wealth, and put yourself in the picture." He then drives the listener to create the path of decisions the visualized wealthy self made to arrive at that wealthy status. I am now returning to the guidance of self development. I invite you on the ride.
This lesson was particularly revealing for me. This week I made the hard decision to not supply the financial needs of a deep friend, She is now in a shelter that can assist her to make better decisions. She made the difficult decision to trust me and trust my guidance that she doesn't need someone to help her from a decision she made months and years ago. Although difficult she is expressing an understanding that she is where she is due to decisions she made in the past. I asked her if there was a message in this mess. She replied in the affirmative. As difficult as it was I had to support her as she lived and learned the message. If I helped her by giving her money, I would be a hindrance to the message. One has to come to class to learn the lesson. The first difficulty is coming to class. The second is focusing enough on the teacher to understand the lesson. The third difficulty is doing the homework to master the lesson.
If there is an ongoing difficulty that is affecting you. Go to class.
The Plan is Coming.... Plan to be there !
I'm steppin' out with my team's first Financial Event !
I'm pretty excited........And I'm pretty concerned....... I want our events to truly be a source of guidance for as many as possible. I also want our events to further force my team to 'walk the talk'. So I have scheduled our first event to be a primarily invite-only event. If you are reading this, you are invited.
This event is called "The Plan........God's plan to get out of debt and to build wealth." This is actually the second presentation-styled event that I devised, but it's the event that we are leading with. While I'm not a theologian, I'm not evangelistic, and I don't exude that "Churchy" presence, I've recently become very interested in the scriptural guidance in regards to finances. In my first presentation, "Wealth strategies of the wealthy" I referenced the financial guidance that is found in the Torah, the Bible, the Koran, and in the writings associated with the Buddah. (I haven't gotten to researching the financial principles of traditional African, traditional Asian, and other indigenous religious cultures. That may be next.... I'll see. Any-who).... After giving this presentation (Wealth Strategies) twice for other groups I decided to do further focused study in the Judea-Christian texts................and voila..................The Plan.
This first installment is a practive run. I formally and digitally invite you and yours to attend and to provide honest feedback as we continue to develop this presentation and our firm. Here's the deal:
